As the Canadian distributor for FRP Bridge Drain Pipe, Fibreglass Solutions has assisted with the specification, design, supply and installation of fibreglass bridge drainage systems for over 30 years.
Corrosion resistant, strong, light and easy to install
The inherent corrosion resistance of fibreglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) piping is the best-in-class choice for applications on road and highway structures. When compared to steel, FRP is highly resistant to salt, solvents, acids, oils, and other corrosive compounds that are commonly found in bridge drainage effluent. Eliminating corrosion by using fibreglass instead of steel piping translates into decades of worry-free operation and a system that will never require replacement due to corrosion-related failures.
Reduced weight means reduced installation costs
Fibreglass is a fraction of the weight of not only steel, but also thermoplastics like PVC. Lighter weight translates into ease of handling and installation.
The reduction in piping system weight means simpler, lighter and fewer supports are required.
Industry-leading support spans
Despite being substantially lighter than other bridge drainage piping materials, FRP Bridge Drain Pipe is also much stronger than nonreinforced thermoplastics like PVC and HDPE thanks to its glass fibre reinforced composite construction – minimum support spacing for FRP Bridge Drain Pipe is more than double that of PVC while being less than half the weight.
Excellent performance at low temperatures
FRP Bridge Drain Pipe does not become brittle at low temperatures like PVC. It has vastly superior impact resistance and the mechanical properties needed to survive the summer-to-winter temperature gradients that are seen in Canada.
Lower thermal forces of expansion/contraction
FRP Bridge Drain pipe expands and contracts with a fraction of the forces associated with PVC, HDPE or steel pipe; it can simply be guided to prevent buckling between supports. When expansion joints exist at abutments, simple double o-ring FRP Bridge Drain Pipe expansion joints can be specified with FRP anchor fittings to isolate the expansion joint movements from the rest of the piping. Our expansion joints can be customized to accommodate the specific range of travel associated with your project’s bridge deck expansion joints.
Large diameter range, customizable components, custom colours
FRP Bridge Drain Pipe is available in 4” – 36” diameters with an array of fittings, flanges and accessories geared towards bridge drainage installations and typical project requirements. Our piping systems can be custom pigmented throughout the pipe wall with any commercially-available colour desired to match structural steel paint specifications.
